Exploring the Narratives of Siblings of Autism

Mentor: Ljiljana Coklin

This project is a compilation of the perspectives of siblings of people with autism that have been gathered through two interviews with each subject. It includes thoughtful analysis of how experiences resulting from having a sibling with autism have impacted subjects’ sense of self, personality, family dynamics, and interpersonal relationships. This project stems from my personal experiences growing up with a sibling who has Autism Spectrum Disorder, but the mission of the project is to highlight the nuanced perspectives of siblings as well as rigorously analyze interviews for common threads. The final product will be a short, written compilation of oral histories that may be used as the basis for a later documentary that covers the same content in a more expanded and accessible format.
