Don’t Worry Baby

Mentor: Bob Krut

Don’t Worry Baby charts the lives of two women: Judy, a female truck driver, and Meredith, a 20-year old Navy bride. The novella follows their struggles against the turbulent backdrop of America in the 1960’s, when women were expected to be housewives and Vietnam divided the country. Over the span of fifty years and through the eyes of servicemen, waitresses, students and truckers, Don’t Worry Baby explores what it means to be a woman in America, then and now.

To better understand this time period in American history, I intend to conduct interviews with individuals who lived through the time frame, American service men and women and, of course, truck drivers. In addition, I will consult archival news clippings, articles and literature and visit pertinent locations in order to create a realistic setting and time period for the novella.
